WSO2 Unveils Developer Platform for OpenChoreo 1.0

WSO2 today announced the General Availability (GA) of the WSO2 Developer Platform for OpenChoreo 1.0, enabling organisations across the Middle East to build, deploy, and scale modern digital services, including AI-powered applications and autonomous agents, faster, more securely, and without vendor lock-in.

At its core, OpenChoreo is an open source platform originally developed by WSO2 to help organisations create and run everything from customer-facing applications and digital services to AI-driven workflows and autonomous agentic systems. As the platform matured, WSO2 made the strategic decision to develop OpenChoreo in the open and contribute it to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, where it has now been accepted as a Sandbox Project. This move ensures the platform remains vendor-neutral and community-driven, while giving organisations in the region the confidence that their digital foundations are built on open standards that will evolve with the broader technology ecosystem.

With the GA release, WSO2 complements this open source foundation with enterprise-grade support, service-level agreements (SLAs), and architectural guidance. This allows organisations to run OpenChoreo in production environments with confidence. OpenChoreo enables faster rollout of new applications and digital experiences, simplifies the integration of legacy and modern systems, and provides a structured way to introduce AI into operations, whether through intelligent automation, AI-assisted development, or the deployment of autonomous agents that can monitor systems, optimise performance, and support decision-making in real time.

Moreover, the platform’s acceptance into the CNCF Sandbox further strengthens its value proposition. As part of the CNCF ecosystem, OpenChoreo benefits from open governance, meaning no single vendor controls its roadmap. This reduces the risk of lock-in, encourages continuous innovation from a global community, and ensures alignment with widely adopted cloud-native standards.

The WSO2 Developer Platform for OpenChoreo builds on this foundation without altering the open source core. Instead, it adds the enterprise capabilities organisations need to operationalise the platform at scale, including 24/7 global support, proactive security and upgrade guidance, dedicated onboarding, and direct access to OpenChoreo maintainers at WSO2, along with experienced engineers and architects.

“Organisations today are not just building applications, they’re building intelligent, adaptive digital systems that need to evolve in real time,” said Lakmal Warusawithana, Product Manager for Choreo at WSO2. “With Choreo, we created a platform that allows businesses to develop everything from digital services to AI-driven agents. By then contributing this to the community, we’ve enhanced its value proposition, ensuring it remains open and future-ready. And now, our addition of enterprise support means organisations can move faster, innovate with confidence, and compete more effectively in an increasingly AI-driven economy.”
