UAE Public Prosecution outlines penalty for phone tapping

The consequences for intercepting the contents of phone calls without prior authorisation from the appropriate legal authorities have been stated by the UAE Public Prosecution.

According to Article No (72) bis 2 of the Federal Decree-Law No 3 of 2003 concerning the regulation of the Telecommunication Sector, as amended, any person who intercepts the contents of a telephone call without prior permission from the competent judicial authorities shall be sentenced to detention and/or a fine, according to the Public Prosecution.

These positions are part of the Population Prosecution’s attempts to raise legal knowledge and culture among the general public.
