Kuwait’s KNPC advances digital transformation with VMware

With VMware, Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) has advanced its digital transformation. KNPC will be able to deliver new mega-projects in the country and contribute to Kuwait Vision 2035’s economic growth goals.

With Kuwait’s national Vision 2035 calling for increased productivity across all sectors, it’s important that the oil industry, which has been the economy’s foundation for decades, modernizes as well, allowing it to reach maximum efficiency and assist diversification initiatives.

KNPC is already working on a number of megaprojects, including a strategic plan to expand and improve the Mina Abdullah and Mina Al-Ahmadi refineries into a single integrated complex with an 800,000 bpd capacity. A sulphur treatment facility and a fifth gas train are two more proposals.

To support these ambitious goals, KNPC created its own private cloud in two Kuwaiti datacenters using a Software Defined Datacenter (SDDC) architecture based on VMware technologies, virtualizing computing, storage, network, and security layers for maximum agility and decreased cost and complexity. The IT team at KNPC is running both sites in an Active-Active configuration, allowing them to provide the business units with high resilience and Service Level Agreements.
