Cisco announced its intent to acquire Skyport Systems, a privately-held company providing cloud-managed, hyper-converged systems that run and protect business-critical applications. The terms and purchase price of the acquisition are confidential.
In a statement, the Cisco said that this acquisition will enable it to utilise Skyport’s intellectual property, seasoned software and network expertise to accelerate priority areas across multiple Cisco portfolios.
Skyport Systems claims to deliver the industry’s first inherently secure, hyperconverged platform that simplifies IT infrastructure by converging compute, virtualization, networking, and storage onto a single platform without sacrificing security or performance.
Cisco along with Google and others had invested in Skyport, when the company went to raise USD 30 million couple of years back. Now as part of Cisco the Skyport Systems team will join the Data Center – Computing Systems Product Group that will be led by Senior Vice President and General Manager Liz Centoni and the Service Provider – Networking Group led by Senior Vice President and General Manager Jonathan Davidson.
