Kaspersky has collaborated with the Saudi Federation for Cyber Security, Programming and Drones (SAFCSP) to conduct a three-day entry-level course on cybersecurity as part of Cyberhub courses program for universities students across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This combined effort was an educational initiative aimed at increasing students’ knowledge of information security, its main concepts and mechanisms, and tools for protection against cyber threats. More than 1500 students with no prior training on cybersecurity participated in the program, which took place from June 2nd to 4th.
Amir Kanaan, Managing Director for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa at Kaspersky, said, “This initiative is another step towards improving cybersecurity training amongst the youth of today, and we appreciate SAFCSP’s efforts in widening its reach. The number of students who attended shows that there is significant awareness about cyber threats and interest in building cybersecurity skills. With initiatives such as this, we are able to invest in the future of cybersecurity for the region.”
Commenting on the training program, Mohammed Alghamdi, Cybersecurity Track Manager, at the Saudi Federation for Cyber Security, Programming and Drones (SAFCSP), said, “We see that there is a constant need for greater cybersecurity awareness in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We are committed towards providing the young people of today with the knowledge that they need to create a cyber-immune world and build the Saudi Cybersecurity capabilities to defend against cyber threats. With Cyberhub initiative and training programs such as this one, we are one step closer towards achieving our goal.”
Over the course of the three days, students learnt about the “Introduction to Cybersecurity”, “Cybersecurity fields” and “Cybersecurity attacks and Defense”. Each day’s sessions focused on a specific topic, with twelve-hours of training. The course also featured a series of interactive games and quizzes, to make learning fun and easy.
Students were able to learn firsthand the fundamentals of threats and vulnerabilities, protection methods and modern trends in cybersecurity. The students who completed their assignments and passed the final quiz received a certificate from Kaspersky.
